Histori

1990-1999: Formasi, Layar Memori , Timecode

Carter, Hill, and Blender decided to form a company based in Dayton, Ohio, United States (USA), at the core of the skateboard industry located in California. The early team racer Duane Pitre recalled attending a meeting in California and was excited about the concept of the innovative Midwestern company, which initially adapted the California restaurant logo where the meeting took place. The first video of the new company was titled Memory Screen (1991), and featured teams consisting of Dyrdek, Pitre, Bo Turner, John Pryor, Scott Conklin, Steve Clear and Thomas Morgan.

After the release of the Memory Screen , the company's focus on video production is equivalent to the product being produced and Timecode released in 1997, featuring new team rider Josh Kalis-- who will remain with the brand for more than 10 years - Lenny Kirk and Fred Gall, who will later rise for Habitat. While the Memory Screen is 41 minutes-long, Timecode Duration ' is only 21 minutes and comprises a full section of three of the nine skateboarders in the video.

2000-2008: Photosynthesis , Burton acquisition, Saari recruitment

Around 2000, the company hired Joe Castrucci to oversee the production of photosynthesis photos - Castrucci will later oversee the development of the Habitat skateboard deck, which joins the Alien Workshop under the parent company of internally-made DNA Distribution, and the alien enlist Registered workshops, such as Kerry Getz and Danny Garcia, for a brand new. The distribution of DNA, also known as "Sovereign Sect," also consists of the Reflex brand (bearing) - Guy Mariano and Kareem Campbell are two professional skateboarders sponsored by Reflex.

Photosynthesis is the first video in which Jason Dill and Anthony van Engelen, the two team riders who will be the main characters of the company, appear. The Dill section in the video is the cover section and is accompanied by Radiohead "Polyethylene."

Dill explained in June 2014, during a narration to the video section, that he consumed "a lot" of crack cocaine during the filming of Photosynthesis and his section included his own recordings, as well as footage taken by founder Hill. Dill revealed that the phone conversations that took place at the beginning of his part, between himself and Carter, were part of the company's record collection of phone conversations with Dill over a two-year period. At the beginning of his story, Dill stated that he did not want to participate in the exercises and felt on the verge of crying.

The video is also the first DNA Distribution video featuring Danny Way, which will then revive Plan B Skateboards; Anthony Pappalardo, who was recruited by the Chocolate Company and Lakai Limited Footwear thereafter; and Brian Wenning, who will join Plan B team being revived. Pappalardo later stated that hearing a message from Dyrdek on his answering machine and officially becoming an amateur rider for Alien Workshop - an event accompanied by Castrucci-made commercials - were two experiences that made him "proud, honorable" and possibly leading. to "sense of achievement from skateboarding".

The distribution of DNA was acquired by Burton Snowboards on February 5, 2008 and a few months later, on May 2, 2008, the company Flip Skateboards announced that its long-term team member Arto Saari had moved to Alien Workshop - the announcement surprised members of the skateboarding media. In 2012, Saari provided further insight into his decision to leave Flip, citing the death of his former teammate Shane Cross as a supporting factor: "It was not, like, an easy thing to do, but, by that time, I knew I had to do it. For the reasons that happened, you know? And that's why I decided that it would be better for me to leave the Flip than, just, go my own way and, just do it. "Professional skateboarder, Ed Templeton, stated in an interview 2012:" me, I was really surprised when he left Flip... that does not make any sense. "

2009-2014: Field Thoughts , Dyrdek acquisition, Secteign Sect closure

Around the time Saari joined the Alien Workshop team, Jake Johnson was recruited by Dill and videographer William Strobeck. Johnson explained that he was initially asked to join the Stereo skateboard deck company, which is jointly owned by Chris Pastras and Jason Lee, but was convinced by Dill not to be a "Stereo Sound Agency". The company's next video is Mind Field , a 60-minute production released in 2009 and directed by Greg Hunt. Complete passages from both Saari and Johnson are featured in the video, and Kalis temporarily moved to Barcelona, Spain to film his part - Oliver Brown from Transworld Skateboarding magazine explained in May 2014 that Kalis collected so many promotional footage, titled In Mono , was released in 2006 and only featured Kalis. Mind Field is the first AWS video featuring Heath Kirchart, Mikey Taylor, Grant Taylor, Dylan Rieder, Omar Salazar, Tyler Bledsoe and Steve Berra.

In early January 2011, Flip announced that Saari had rejoined the team and released an image featuring Saari in addition to the text: "The House is the Place of the Heart". Saari spoke of his time as an Alien Workshop racer and also delivered a brief conversation with Carter who followed his decision to return to Flip:

Driving for Alien is great; like, no bad vibrations or anything. I really like the company, I really like everyone involved in it and I am friends with everyone. And when you have to stop from a company like that, you want to blow your brains out, you know? I only talked to Carter and it was probably, like, one of the hardest calls I had to do and just talk to him and him, like, "Well, man jerk, it's sad, but it is, like, you have to do what you have to do. "

On January 10, 2012, Skateboarder announced the purchase of Dyralek from Alien Workshop and DNA Distribution from Burton Snowboards. After Dyrdek acquired the DNA Distribution, an official press release stated that "Carter will continue to oversee DNA Distribution in Dayton, Ohio, while Dyrdek will consult directly on all marketing and creative out of its Los Angeles-based offices." In August of the same year, the brand released a series of skateboard decks, wheels, clothing, and stickers featuring the art of Keith Haring.

On May 1, 2013, two senior skateboarders Jason Dill and Anthony Van Engelen (AVE) announced publicly their departure from Alien Workshop. The press release stated: "Our decision to leave the Workshop is very difficult... It will always be the greatest time of our lives... The time we spend grows with the Alien Workshop Thank you, Dyrdek Thank you, Carter. , Mike Hill.Sincerely, Dill, and AVE. "

On September 3, 2013, Mike "Mikey" Taylor announced his departure from the company after eleven years as a team member. Taylor revealed the news on his Instagram account and explained:

I feel sad to announce that Alienworkshop recently and I have decided to split up. It's crazy to think how fast 11 years have passed. I had met @robdyrdek when I was a kid before I was sponsored, so it was very real when he called me and asked me to be pro on his company, Seek. The last 8 years with AWS are great and I just want to thank Rob, Chris Carter, and Mike Hill for all you've done for me. I wish you the best !!

The press release announced on October 2, 2013 that Dyrdek will continue to be a minority shareholder of the parent company's DNA, after the acquisition by Pacific Vector Holdings (PVH), a company that also has Gatorz sunglasses and Fear brand apparel. The closing of the transaction took place on October 7, 2013 and the controlled interest was purchased for the issuance of 250,000 stock options and US $ 1.5 million in acquisition. In a press release, Dyrdek stated: "The brand of DNA is in great hands... the possibilities are endless."

After the release of the Nike Skateboarding (Nike SB) video Two Up, produced by Chris Middlebrook and the Nike SB Australia team, Alex Campbell's recruitment to Alien Workshop has been confirmed. Campbell, a native of Perth, Western Australia, used to drive for 4 Skateboard companies and was seen riding an AWS skateboard deck in the video and thanked the brand in credit.

2014 - 2016 : Post-closure analysis, revival planning, relaunch

On May 19, 2014, the "I Do not Know, Man" Tumblr blog, written by Willy Staley, published an article explaining that Alien Workshop has ceased operating as a functional company in mid-May 2014 and Staley, under the heading "How the Workshop Alien Died, Probably ", gave a comprehensive history of Alien Workshop since the acquisition of Dyrdek. On May 15, 2014, PVH issued "corporate updates" and "bi-weekly Default Status Report pursuant to National Policy 12-203 - Stop Trade Orders for Sustainable Default (" NP 12-203 ")" on TMX Money website , which explains that significant debt problems have caused structural changes and interested investors from Toronto, Ontario, Canada may also be able to help. In addition to the closing of the Alien Workshop, PVH closed 18 poorly performing retail locations, eliminating 14 headquarters positions and negotiating temporary pay cuts with certain management personnel, resulting in total cost savings of US $ 722,000 per year. However, Staley concludes his post with the statement: "I am not qualified to say what happened to the Alien Workshop, because I do not sit on the PVH board, and the PVH archive does not mention DNA."

In a radio interview with Thrasher magazine, published on May 20, 2014, Johnson said he would entertain Jake Phelps: "We were fired... I did not hear from my Pacific Vector representative." On May 29, 2014, Barton issued an award to the company as part of the "5 YouTubes Of The Week" segment - Barton's first choice was Dyrdek's part on Memory Screen and he dedicated the election to a company I always happy to appear here, I just never think of a reason for goodbye Let's start at the beginning of 1991 with "Day one baby!" Rob Dyrdek and his part in Memory Screen.

VHS original video recording of Memory Screen was held on June 10, 2014, with Carter and Pitre present. Filtration takes place at the Theater Watch in Brooklyn, New York, USA, and Carter and Pitre answer questions afterwards. Video edited from Q & amp; A is published on the NY Skateboarding website .

A statement from Castrucci was published on the Sungeboarding Page page of Tumblr on May 23, 2014 in connection with the future of Habitat:

It was a strange time, that's for sure. I really can not speak for AWS but I know myself and the skate team [Habitat] are still united and we have a good choice for the future. There are only legal and financial details we are currently working on with I.P. (Investment partner). I feel quite eager for the future of Habitat though. I'm sure everything will look different but I like change, so I'm not angry about it. I'll keep you posted as a progress thing! Thank you, Joe

Dyrdek participated in an interview with ESPN media company and revealed that the Alien Workshop is only in the hiatus period, among other topics of importance to the global skateboard culture. Dyrdek explains the situation clearly and without ambiguity:

In the end, I just bought it [Alien Workshop] back and re-launched Habitat [skateboard company] a few months ago and plan to relaunch Alien in the near future. Alien took a different strategy because the people I do Alien with me already know my whole life, and they want a little transition. Basically, we have restructured both companies and we have the right arrangements now where they will run slim, and that's what they need for the modern market. They will be there for 50 more years.

In 2015, the Alien Workshop reappears by Hill under Tumoyo Distribution; Carter is no longer involved, as his primary focus is on the now defunct Reflex Bearings. On October 29, 2015, Thrasher Magazine launched the sixth Alien Workshop, Bunker Down and Yaje Popson was added to the team in early 2016.

2016 and so on: Operating back to Ohio

In July 2016 it was announced that the relationship with Tum-Yeto was being removed and the operation would be fully restored to Ohio.

In September 2016 Alien Workshop released a video section for new team racer Frankie Spears called Bigly.

In early 2017, the Workshop promoted the team of riders Yaje Popson and Joey Guevara and released a pro model board for this event. This is the first pro model since the 2015 brand launch. Shortly after the release of Mike Hill's board, the current artist and strength (with Matt Williams) behind the Workshop gave extensive interviews to Thrasher, talking about the death and rebirth of his brand, his art, his community vision for Bunkers - where operations are headquartered. Hill also talks about his collaboration with Supreme and notes that Rob Dyrdek is no longer involved in Alien Workshop operations.
