Reception
Judith Crist's magazine did not like Hagmann's directive and Horovitz's writing and wrote, "[This] is a careless story about a drug-driven apprentice because he sees his children, children and the elderly become sick, and that seems to make her girl an addict too - or just make her stop wearing eyeliner you can not tell which - and do not care.
Roger Greenspun of The New York Times wrote that Believe in Me avoids melodrama seen in other drug films but finds that it has predictable surprises and fails to explain "crucial" questions. He is reviewing, "[It] is full of plots that are dropped and never taken, and seems to have been cut off - not so much edited as a flaw. When left some emotional range... Stuart Hagmann directs a rather decent movie. as it is too little, and in suppressing the pathos even, the film also suppresses other feelings that can make it alive. "
