Background and production
In 1978, Jackson starred as Scarecrow on The Wiz , a retweet of urbanization from L. Frank Baum The Wonderful Wizard of Oz . After filming, Jackson, still a member of The Jacksons, approached the film's director, Quincy Jones, to ask if he knew the producers to help with Jackson's solo effort. Jones suggested him, and the two began working on Off the Wall . After listening to hundreds of demos, the two decided to record. These include "Workin 'Day and Night", "Get on the Floor" and "Do not Stop' Til You Get Enough". The song was recorded in the Los Angeles recording studio. Jackson states that when the melody "Do not Stop" until you're Enough "comes to him, he can not let go, he finds himself humming and singing as he walks through Jacksons's Encino house.Because Michael is not a keyboardist, though certainly capable of playing the piano, he tells his brother Randy performs a melody on the piano at the family recording studio When Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson, a devout Jehovah Witness, heard the song, she was shocked by the lyrical content, and felt that the title could be misinterpreted as related to sexual activity. it's not a reference to sex, but it can mean anything anyone wants. After playing the tape to Jones, it is agreed that the song will be displayed on Off the Wall .
In a speech at the Red Bull 2016 Academy of Music, Greg Phillinganes alleged that Jackson played the initial demo "Do not Stop Until Your Enough" and said "need another part," after which Phillinganes suggested a bridge, and both agreed to rate his contribution on 10% of the song. Soon after, he was told that his contribution would only be regarded as an arrangement. However, many pressures from Jackson's singles list and Phillinganes as composers.
Quincy Jones supports Phillinganes' allegations.
