Histori
1980s
The band was formed in Mooloolaba, Queensland in 1985 by two young men: Peter Furler and his schoolmate George Perdikis, trained in a garage on the Sunshine Coast, renowned as "surfer's paradise". Two other teenagers were added shortly afterwards: Furler's best friend, John James, and bassist Sean Taylor. The band's original name is The News . They turn it into The Newsboys to avoid conflict with US-based band Huey Lewis and News. The band came to the United States in late 1987 after it was signed with Refuge Communications and released the album Read All About It in 1988 in the United States.
1990s
After signing a contract with Star Song Communications, they released two more albums in 1990 and 1991: Hell Is for Wimps and Boys Will Be Boyz , with their first self-titled video. None of the band's first three albums garnered much attention, and the band's line-up changed with every release.
It was not until their 1992 album, Not Ashamed (containing cover of DeGarmo & Key "Boycott Hell"), that the band got attention in the Christian music world with self-titled two videos followed a year then. Steve Taylor, a singer-songwriter and producer, started a partnership with the band, produced band recordings and wrote most of the lyrics for their songs. Furler remained the band's main songwriter and started with this album starting to share lead vocal duties with James and continue to do so until James's departure.
In 1994, in the midst of further line-up changes (including the addition of mainstays Jody Davis and Duncan Phillips), the band released their Going Public , their fifth album and their first real success. The record proved to be a turning point for the group, winning the 1995 Dove Award for "Rock of the Year" Album. It also produced four hit No. 1: "Spirit Thing", "Real Good Thing", "Truth and Consequences", and most prominently, "Shine". "Shine" won the Dove 1995 for "Rock Recorded Song of the Year". In 2006, CCM Magazine enrolled "Shine" in the top ten ranking in its ranking of the 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music.
The follow-up album of 1996 Take Me to Your Leader was recorded with an expanded line with new additions Phil Joel and Jeff Frankenstein. The album yielded three more pop hits. 1: "Reality", "Let It Go", and title track, two rock No.Ã, 1 hits: "Cup O 'Tea" and "Breathe", as well as favorite staple fan and "Breakfast" concert. The album also won the third group Dove, this time for "Recorded Music Packaging of the Year". This album spawned the first movie The Newsboys Down Under the Big Top (1996), which is based on the song "Reality".
In late 1997, James announced he would leave the band, to begin his preaching service. In 2007, he revealed the real reason was due to drug and alcohol addiction. With his departure, Furler moved from drum to vocals and auditions were held for the currently empty drum position. Finally, Duncan Phillips, who previously played keyboards and percussion for the band moved to the drum kit. From 1998 to 2003, Furler's band-line, bassist Phil Joel, guitarist Jody Davis, keyboardist Jeff Frankenstein, and Phillips remained constant.
The first post-James album, Step Up to the Microphone , sold well and produced four hit No. 1: "Entertaining Angels", "WooHoo", "Believe", and title track. It also spawned live video Newsboys, "Live One Night In Pennsylvania" a year later. "Entertaining Angels" won Dove 1999 for the "Short Shape Music of the Year".
The band returned in 1999 with Love Liberty Disco , the band's only album that significantly deviated from their pop rock sound. Instead, this special album features more disco sound. However, it resulted in several hits, including hit No. 1 "Beautiful Sound" and "Good Stuff", as well as the title track. LLD tours are significantly more popular than albums. This tour features an inflatable arena, called Air Dome.
In 1999, Furler founded Inpop Records with Wes Campbell, as an independent contemporary Christian music record label.
2000s
In 2000, Newsboys featured the annual CCM concert, the Con Dios Festival, with Audio Adrenaline and The O.C. Supertones. In the same year, Newsboys released the greatest hits compilation, Shine: The Hits , which did not include any songs from the album Love Liberty Disco but included four new songs, two of which where ("Joy" and "Who?") go to No. 1. After this album, the band did not release any new material until the 2002 release of Thrive , a recording that produced two no.. 1 single: "Million Pieces (Kissin 'Your Cares Goodbye)" and "It Is You" praise and worship, which proved to be the biggest hit of their career up to that moment with their videos, Growing: From The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame . Also in 2002, The Newsboys recorded the song "In the Belly of a Whale" for the final credits of the 2002 film Yunus: A VeggieTales Movie.
After the success of "It Is You", the Newsboys were followed by two praise and worship albums: Adoration: The Worship Album in 2003 and Devotion in 2004. More radio hits came in 2006 with the live version of "I Am Free" (originally written by Jon Egan of Desperation Band), and "Wherever We Go". On October 31, 2006, The Newsboys released a pop/rock album titled GO . GO featured David Eri as a co-writer and the songs "Something Beautiful" and "In Wonder" were big hits on Christian Radio. In December, Joel announced that he would leave the band to pursue his own project and album. On May 8, 2007 the band released GO Remixed which consisted of a new version of songs from GO and featured remixes by Tedd T., Jeff Frankenstein, Max Hsu from Superchick and Lee Bridges.
On November 20th 2007, Newsboys released their greatest greatest hits compilation, The Greatest Hits . The eighteen-song CD also features two new songs "I Fought the La..." and "Stay Strong". The album was followed by Newsboys Live: Houston We Are GO , the CD/DVD combo recording package of GO Tour, which was released on September 30, 2008. Also in 2008, the band, with Steve Taylor providing vocals, recording the song "Yo Ho Hero" for The Pirates Who Do not Do Anything: VeggieTales Movie .
On January 5, 2009, Colman announced he would leave The Newsboys to return to his solo project. At the same time it was announced that Davis would return to the band, after 5 years of absence. "I'm happy to be back in the band and back with my band mates, who are some of my best friends," Davis said, "this is a big change in my life, and I look forward to a new tour and record with excitement."
In 2009, it was announced that Furler, having toured with The Newsboys since the band's inception, has decided to return to a supporting role and will continue to be the lead songwriter and producer. Therefore, a replacement lead vocalist is required for the band to continue touring. On March 9, 2009, it was announced that Michael Tait, former dc Talk, would be the new vocalist. "Michael Tait will be on tour with the band as the lead singer with Peter making special appearances throughout the year, Peter will continue with the band and songwriting and the production of his songs will remain as he focuses his professional career into the future of Newsboys recording. On March 17, Tait performed his first full concert as a lead singer at Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
The Newsboys released their In The Hands of God studio album on May 5th (on Inpop Records) with Max Hsu (Superchick and tobyMac) producing the album. Old collaborator Steve Taylor co-wrote all the songs and sang in one song. During their September 11 concert in Orlando, Furler announced that this would be his last guest appearance with the band.

The first studio album The Newsboys featuring lead singer Michael Tait, Born Again , was released on July 13, 2010 and debuted at No. 1. 4 on Billboards 200, their highest debut position, and sold over 45,000 copies in its first week. The band appeared in sequence for the movie God i Not Dead, released in 2014. "Duncan Phillips added in a similar interview that" Shane Harper of Disney plays a student whose faith challenged by his professor, played by Kevin Sorbo of Hercules Dean Cain from Superman is also in it So we have to hang out with a group of people, superheroes This movie raises many questions and many eyebrows from cultures that question whether there is a God.
