Professional wrestling career
Initial career
He entered the wrestling business in his teenage years as a ringside photographer. After high school, he enrolled in the United States Air Force, serving four years on duty; during this time, he often wrestled for independent promotion on the Indian Coast for hours off duty. In 1979, he began to manage as Percival "Percy" Pringle, III in the southeast southeast promotion. Previously there was Percy Pringles in wrestling that was not William Moody. Soon after the birth of his first son, he reduced his involvement in the wrestling business to a degree in mortuary science and was certified as a reformer and heir.
In 1984, he continued his full-time involvement in the wrestling business, using his Pringle characters at the Florida Wrestling Championships, the World Class Wrestling Championships in Texas, and the US Wrestling Association (WCCW's successor). During this time, he served as manager for many wrestlers; he mainly manages Rick Rude, "Stunning" Steve Austin, and Mark Calaway early in their careers. As Percy Pringle, he is also associated with Lex Luger's career, Eric Embry, and The Ultimate Warrior.
He joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in December 1990, after being mentioned by Rick Rude to WWF owner Vince McMahon. McMahon used the real involvement of Moody's life in the funeral industry to create the character of Paul Bearer, the name given to him by Road Warrior Hawk and the play of pallbearer. In his role as a highly histrionic manager, he is almost always seen carrying jars (which causes some plot involving wrestlers stealing jars), and who catch the phrase "Ohhh yyes!"
Moody made his first appearance in February 1991, as a heel, when Brother Love, who initially administered The Undertaker, handed it over to be managed by Paul Bearer. Bearer takes on a more frightening and frightening character. Bearer also hosted a WWF talk show titled The Funeral Parlor , which includes segments that are easy to remember such as Ultimate Warrior that is locked inside a coffin, among others. In 1992, The Undertaker and Bearer turned, when Undertaker stopped former Roberts ally Jake "The Snake" from raided Randy "Macho Man" Savage and Miss Elizabeth with backstage chairs.
Finally the Bearer turned his heels again by betraying his long-time protégé in SummerSlam 1996 to adjust to the arch-rivals of The Undertaker, Mankind. During this time, Bearer also hired The Executioner and Vader to fight The Undertaker.
In April 1997 in In Your House 14: Revenge of the 'Taker, The Undertaker set the face of Bear's blaze using a fireball. As a result, the Carrier's head was bandaged for some time before changing his appearance, spilling his pale and dark black makeup into his natural strawberry blonde hair and a bit of make-up. No longer using her ghostly looks and behavior, she becomes stubborn and shrill. Around mid-1997, Paul Bearer forced Undertaker (WWF Champion at the time) to become his protagon again with an ultimatum to reveal the deep dark secrets of the past. During this time, the Bearer makes reference to "the fire of hell." Feeling he had no choice, The Undertaker received after a few weeks of resistance. While "managing" the Undertaker this time, Bearer engages in tyrannical behavior toward him, harassing him constantly. Finally, Undertaker loses his temper and refuses to let the Bearer to continue to be his manager, leading the Bearer to reveal his secret.
The secret suggests that Bearer has a traumatic past with The Undertaker who long preceded Brother Love to join them both in January 1991. The secret, which involves the Undertaker family, is: Undertaker's mother had an affair with Paul Bearer and as a result, gave birth to a younger half-brother from The Undertaker, named Kane. During his childhood and juvenile The Undertaker, he lived in a funeral home with his parents and half-siblings. According to Paul Bearer, The Undertaker accidentally killed his parents by burning a funeral home and causing his half sister's bruised and scarred face. By then in the mid to late 1997, The Undertaker denied all this, claiming that it was his younger half sister's fault. Bearer accused The Undertaker of being a "burner", "killer", and "liar."
Due to the fire incident, The Undertaker thought his younger half brother and illegitimate son had died for years. But Bearer introduced Kane in October 1997 at Badd Blood: In Your House, where Kane made The Undertaker a Hell in a Cell against Shawn Michaels. This leads to fierce competition between The Undertaker and Kane and Bearer. Kane was not revealed as a Bearer boy until April 27, 1998, on Monday Night Raw, the day after the first Inferno Game, at Unforgiven, where Kane was burned. The Undertaker proved also unaware of this at the time, and helped build further hostility, as Undertaker initially refused to believe his story until DNA testing in the story proves it to be true. The fight lasted until the summer of 1998, when Kane apparently left Bearer to favor The Undertaker, initiating a face change.
Bearer and The Undertaker became team heels again towards the end of 1998 when Bearer betrayed his own son, Kane, to manage The Undertaker once more. After becoming a heel with the Bearer, The Undertaker unabashedly admitted to set up a funeral home that he initially claimed was an accident or blame Kane. Shortly thereafter, Bearer (returned to his signature display) and The Undertaker formed the Ministry of Darkness. Both he and The Undertaker took hiatus from WWF without further ado in September 1999 as a result of The Undertaker who suffered an injury.
In early 2000, Bearer, who turned soon, returned to WWF TV as Kane's manager, but he retired from the screen during a show shortly after WrestleMania 2000. Later that year, he went backstage to serve as WWF's road agency, stage managers, and talent scouts. His contract with WWE ended in October 2002.
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2002-2003)
He spent the next year working with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) under the ring name Percy Pringle III.
Return to WWE
In October 2003, he signed a new three year contract with WWE. When Jim Ross contacted him about rejoining the company, Paul initially refused the offer. Ross then calls again with an offer. At the time, he suffered health problems and depression associated with his obesity and underwent gastric bypass surgery in November 2003. As a signing bonus, WWE agreed to pay for the operation, as Ross promised.
Managing The Undertaker and backstage work (2004-2005)
After recovering, he reappeared as Paul Bearer in March 2004 at WrestleMania XX, alongside Undertaker in a game against Kane. Paul Bearer also appeared on TV as manager of The Undertaker.
In the spring of 2004, Paul Bearer was kidnapped by The Dudley Boyz under the direction of Paul Heyman. It was formed for a while wrote The carrier came out of the WWE storyline because he had to undergo emergency gallbladder surgery after abruptly developing gallstones, a common side effect of gastric bypass surgery.
For June 27, 2004, The Great American Bash's pay-per-view, a match that ranked The Undertaker against both The Dudley Boyz has been booked. Paul Bearer wrapped in a "basement" glass behind the stage, covering his chest with cement. Heyman asks The Undertaker to throw a match or Bearer will suffocate in cement.
The Undertaker wins the match but proceeds afterwards to pull the lever that sends the cement into the basement, completely burying Paul Bearer, choking him. (The bearer is not really on the show.WWE has recorded footage from Paul Bearer in the basement before the show During the show there's a double action in the basement all the time. That's why television viewers can only see Paul Bearer and his basement being - because he is not there, they can not show anyone on the screen with Bearer). This shot ended pay-per-view and caused a lot of complaints against WWE, because basically they have shown a simulated killing. The immediate audience, however, sees an extended end in which the bearer pops into the air and is carried from the arena on a stretcher. In the following week Smackdown! , the recognized Bearer is alive, despite being seriously injured, for the purpose of the storyline. Screening of previous exercises on Bash day - with Undertaker ad-libbing and only half of the complete action, in the empty arena - leaked onto internet sheets and actually aired inadvertently in many television markets. Because he had two years left on his contract, however, Bearer was used as a booker for the company until WWE decided to terminate his contract on April 11, 2005.
Other WWE work and independent circuits (2005-2013)
On June 10, 2005, Bearer announced that he had signed a new contract with WWE, allowing him to market his personality and requiring him to attend signature sessions, make promotional appearances and sometimes work on TV and home events. At the end of January 2007, at SmackDown/ECW home event in Mobile, Alabama, Bearer joins The Brothers of Destruction on ringside, carrying original jars.
On April 11, 2007, Bearer appeared in "Where Are They Now?" page, on the WWE site. He is said to have lost 240 pounds.
Bearer was a manager in the THQ video game WWE Legends of WrestleMania in 2009. In 2010, Moody performed voice over work as Paul Bearer for the game, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 , where she is featured in one of the Road To WrestleMania storylines for the game, as well as the manager to choose from. He is also on WWE All Stars , WWE '13 , and WWE 2K14 as a selectable manager and part of single-player mode Attitude Era , and 30 Years of WrestleMania fashion each representing The Brothers of Destruction.
Bearer returns to the Boston-based Millennium Wrestling Federation as top heel manager along with John "Bradshaw" Layfield after four years, leads "Stalker" Dylan Kage in Soul Survivor VI against The Iron Sheik and "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal in retirement Sheik match 24 April 2010.
On October 12, 2012, Bearer manages Vader against Rikishi at Pro Wrestling Syndicate in Rahway, NJ. Sporadic WWE Appearance (2010-2012)
On September 24, 2010, the episode of SmackDown, Bearer made her first appearance on screen within 6 years after being taken out in a coffin. He helps The Undertaker, who is hostile to Kane over the World Heavyweight Championship, by restoring the power of Undertaker with jars. The Bearer officially becomes the Undertaker manager again by accompanying him to the ring for the match against Kane for the title in Hell in a pay-per-view cell. During the game, Bearer once again lights the Undertaker, after shining his eyes as he heads for Tombstone Kane. He then lets Kane hit the Undertaker with a jar to help him win, thus turning the heels. On October 15th episode of SmackDown, Bearer challenged Undertaker to face Kane in a Buried Alive Match for the World Heavyweight Championship at Bragging Rights, which the Undertaker accepted by attacking Kane. At Bragging Rights, Kane once again defeated the Undertaker after interference by Bearer, who was almost thrown into the grave by Undertaker, and The Nexus, who helped Bearer and Kane bury the Undertaker.
Kane then enters hostility with Edge, having been crowned as the new challenger for Kane's World Heavyweight Championship in the Survivor Series. On November 12th episode SmackDown , Kane charges Edge match against Nexus member David Otunga. After the game, Edge kidnaps the Carrier by tying him in a wheelchair. That night, Edge uses Bearer to charge Kane match against Big Show. The following week, Edge tortured the Bearer all night by throwing a dodgeball at him and forcing a meal and throwing a pizza into his body. Edge then uses the Bearer to call Kane in the parking lot, but Kane can not get the Bearer in time when the Edge attacks him and goes with the Bearer. In the Survivor Series, Edge brings an empty wheelchair that causes Kane to go mad with a panic trying to interrogate him where the Carrier is held. Even though the game ended in a draw, Kane could not find the Bearer as Edge pushed his enemy into the barricade. On November 26th episode of SmackDown, Kane demanded Edge to let Bearer go, but Edge refused. Kane attempted to track down the Bearer, but could not find it. Kane offers a second title shot to the Edge, which he receives, but continues to keep the Bearer with him. At the end of the night, Edge lured Kane into the parking lot, where Edge drove the Paul Bearer doll version, with Paul's real carrier in the backseat of the car. On December 3rd episode SmackDown , Edge resumed his mind games with Kane by pushing a fake version of Paul Bearer down several stairs. Later, after Edge defeated Kane in a non-title match, he brought in a man similar to Paul Bearer. Kane then goes in search of the Hunter again, but Edge leaves in a truck with the Bearer tied behind. The following week, Kane begs Edge to return the Bearer, but Edge once again refuses. Kane then refuses to participate in the main event of the evening and again seeks the Bearer. After seeing what he thought was a fake version of Paul Bearer on two stairs, Kane pushed them. Afterwards, Kane sees that he is pushing the real Paul Carrier from the stairs to the concrete floor, thus, injuring him and writing him out of the storyline.
In April 2012, Bearer returned for a brief assignment as part of Kane's ongoing feud with Randy Orton. He was kidnapped by Orton and then trapped in a refrigerator while being tied to a wheelchair. Kane then comes to the Bearer, just to return it to the freezer and says, "I saved you... from me".
Bearer is planned to reunite with The Undertaker and Kane on the WWE Raw 1000 but can not make the event due to scheduling and travel conflicts. Bearer's last appearance for WWE was in April 2012 before his death.
