Pennywise is an American punk rock band from Hermosa Beach, California, formed in 1988. The band takes its name from the evil clown monsters of Stephen King's horror novel It .
Between their 1991 self-titled debut and 2005's The Fuse Pennywise has released an album every two years on Epitaph Records, a label owned by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. To date, the band has released 12 full-length studio albums (the most recent being 2018's Never Gonna Die), one live album, two EPs and one DVD. Although their first two studio albums were critically acclaimed, Pennywise would not experience commercial success worldwide until the 1995 release of their third studio album, About Time , which reached number ninety six on the Billboard 200, and number fifty-five in the Australian ARIA Song Ladder. The band's mainstream success was marked by growing interest in punk rock during the 1990s, along with fellow California band NOFX, Rancid, Blink-182, Bad Religion, Green Day, The Offspring, Lagwagon and Sublime. In 2007, the band independently sold over three million records worldwide, making them one of the most successful independent punk actions of all time.
Pennywise's current line-up consists of Jim Lindberg (vocals), Fletcher Dragge (guitar), Randy Bradbury (bass) and Byron McMackin (drums). They have kept their original line-up together until bassist Jason Thirsk died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds in 1996, due to problems with alcoholism, after Bradbury joined as his successor. In August 2009, Lindberg decided to leave the band; she was replaced in February 2010 by Ignite singer Zoli TÃÆ' à © glÃÆ'ás. With TÃÆ'à © glÃÆ'ás, the band recorded their tenth studio album All or Nothing , released on May 1, 2012. Lindberg rejoined the band later that year after TÃÆ'à à © glÃÆ'ás disregarded by a back injury.

Riwayat band
Awal tahun (1988-1992)
Pennywise was formed in 1988 in Hermosa Beach, California, by singer Jim Lindberg, guitarist Fletcher Dragge, drummer Byron McMackin and bassist Jason Thirsk. They released two EPs A Word from the Wise and Wildcard (both 1989). Each band member has played in other bands in the Hermosa Beach area and attended Mira Costa High School, except for McMackin, who attended Redondo Union High School.
The group signed a contract with Epitaph Records in 1990 and released their first album Pennywise (1991). The album quickly circulated throughout the punk community, gaining the band some national recognition. The lyrics in the album support a positive mental attitude, helping to promote progressive ideals for Generation X. Lindberg left the band immediately after recording his debut. In 1992, vocalist The Vandals, Dave Quackenbush, took over the vocals for a brief assignment to help with the tour. Bradbury left the band and Thirsk returned to bass.
Increase the popularity and death of Thirsk (1993-1996)
Lindberg married and returned to the group in 1992 in time for their second album Unknown Road, released in August 1993, an underground hit that formed the band as a force in punk music. While the album does not map on Billboard 200, it earned Pennywise supporting slots on national and world tours with bands like The Offspring. It contains 13 songs and one hidden song, "Slowdown".
About Time , Pennywise's third studio album, was released on June 13, 1995. This was their first album to chart on the Billboard 200, ranked 96. It also charted 55 on the Australian Albums Ladder, and produced a single "Same Old Story ". This is also the last album to show Jason Thirsk playing bass throughout.
In 1996, Pennywise began recording their fourth album. Thirsk left the band in an attempt to subdue his alcohol. Although initially successful, he relapsed and died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds to his chest on July 29, 1996. Their album, Full Circle, is dedicated to his memory.
New bassist and sustained popularity (1996-2002)
After Thirsk's death, Bradbury rejoined the band as a bassist and recorded his next album, Full Circle (1997). Despite losing friends and bass players, the album came out a few months after Thirsk's death and was dedicated in his honor. As a Thirsk award, the band re-recorded the song from their first album "Bro-Hymn" and named it "Bro-Hymn (tribute)". The Full Collle album art work resembles the front cover of their first album.
The band's next album Straight Ahead was released in 1999. The album reached 62 on the Billboard 200, and 8th on the Album of the Australian Album . The only single of this album is "Alien", which reached 36 in Hot Modern Rock Tracks. The 18th song was released only in Australia and New Zealand, a cover of the song Men at Work "Down Under."
A live album, Live @ the Key Club was released in 2000. It contains songs from all of their previous albums. Land of the Free? was released in 2001 and ranked 67th on Billboard 200 and number 21 on the ARIA Australia Albums Ladder. The song "Who's On Your Side" was co-written by Brett Gurewitz (also known as Mr. Brett), a guitarist and songwriter for Bad Religion.
From Ashes and The Fuse (2003-2006)
From Ashes was released on September 9, 2003 (USA), and reached number 54 on Billboard 200, number 4 on the Top Independent Albums chart, and 13 Album Albums Australia, marking the highest start charting albums in Pennywise's career. The album contains 14 songs and retains no singles, although the song "Yesterdays" sees regular radio playback at multiple stations.
Home Movies , 1995's old album VHS, was released on DVD for the first time in 2004. More Pennywise footage can be seen in the Steve Martin movie 45 Revolutions: A Slice of XVI St. Life, XVI St. to be where Jason and Fletcher hang out at Hermosa Beach.
The band's eighth album, The Fuse , was released in Europe on June 27 and in North America on August 9, 2005. The album retains 15 tracks and charts number 36 on ARIA Album Charts Australia. The Australian band tour canceled causing rumors to break up, which Lindberg denied. Also in that year, the digital version of the first four studio albums was released.
Around 2006, Pennywise recorded the cover of It All's Ill "My Life" for the 2007 band album tribute Our Impact Will Feel . Pennywise is one of many bands to contribute to the honor.
Reason to Believe and part ways with Lindberg (2007-2009)
The band returned to the studio in 2007 to begin work on their ninth album, Reason to Believe which was released on March 25, 2008. The album did not go well on the Billboard chart, but this was largely because of the album it's offered as a free download on Myspace, where over 400,000 copies are downloaded, making it one of their most successful albums. It peaked at No. 98 in the United States on the Billboard 200, and No. 46 in Australia on the ARIA Album Chart. Reason for Believing does defend three singles, "The Western World", "Die For You", and "One Reason".
In August 2009, Jim Lindberg announced he was leaving the band. Lindberg released the following statement:
By the time Lindberg left the group, Pennywise began writing new material for the tenth studio album. After the departure of Lindberg formed the band The Black Pacific.
Zoli TÃÆ' à © glÃÆ'ás and All or Nothing (2009-2012)
Zoli TÃÆ' à © glÃÆ'ás, frontman for the Ignite hardcore/punk band, previously filled on vocals during the band's set at the 2009 Smokeout Festival, while Lindberg was filming a documentary, The Other F Word, based on his book, Punk Rock Dad : No Rules, Just Real Life .
It was announced on February 16, 2010 that TÃÆ'à © glÃÆ'ás will be Jim's permanent replacement. In an interview with Zoli, he talks about joining Pennywise and is planning for a new Pennywise album. Ignite will continue as a band with Zoli. However, the release of their new album was delayed, in part due to a commitment to the 2010 Warped Tour. Guitarist Fletcher Dragge said in July 2010 that it would be released sometime in early 2011. The album release date has been pushed back. On October 19, 2011, Pennywise announced on their Twitter page that they had started working on their new album. On March 7, 2012, the band released the song "All or Nothing" from an album with the same title on the KROQ website.
Pennywise toured a six-date South American in December 2010. After that, they toured Europe in January and February 2011, followed by Soundwave Australia in February and March and three live dates in Japan in April.
All or Nothing seems to be an album rejected by the band itself since Zoli Teglas left. Even Pennywise has stopped to perform any song from albums on shows since then. The band did not even mention the album on their official website.
Reunion with Lindberg, Last day and Never Gonna Die (2012-present)
TÃÆ' à © glÃÆ'ás injured his back during a June 2012 concert in Germany, which required emergency operations. Pennywise was forced to cancel all tour activities for a year to allow the singer to recover. However, TÃÆ' à © glÃÆ'ás wants to leave the band and has been in contact with Lindberg, asking him to rejoin. In an appearance at KROQ-FM in October, Dragge and Lindberg announced the return of Lindberg, which will be celebrated with a January 2013 show at Hollywood Palladium to commemorate the band's 25th anniversary. Lindberg's return is on the South American Festival Tour, which begins Nov. 4 in SÃÆ'à £ Paulo, Brazil.
In early 2013, Pennywise began work on their eleventh studio album Yesterdays, which was released on July 15, 2014, and was the first band with Lindberg on vocals since 2008 Reason to Believe. Although Yenedays is considered a proper studio album, it is a compilation of previously unreleased songs written by Pennywise bassist Jason Thirsk and includes recording of two songs "No Way Out" and "Pelan - slowly ". To support Yenedays , Pennywise started Summer Nationals 2014 from July to September, with support from Bad Religion, The Offspring, The Vandals, Stiff Little Fingers and Naked Raygun. The band also plans to release a set of boxes.
In early 2016, Pennywise began working on their twelfth studio album. In a June 2016 interview, Lindberg stated, "This has been a point of contradiction.I really have been pressing that we really should get into the studio and it's sort of doing chores and then people have to go back to their families and things like It just continues to be postponed, but I know everyone has a lot of songs I have an idea for a song and I know Fletcher plays some things that sound cool, but we just have to go in there and do that, the desire to play should be there of all the people involved, and that's why I do a lot of Wrathful things because if Pennywise will not practice and enter the studio and write songs, then I 'I'm not going to sit fiddling with my thumb, I'm ready and willing to go into the studio and that's which everyone says, but they do not seem to do it, so I just say, "Okay, fine, let me know when you're ready. "I hate to sound sad, but if anyone is in the band as long as I've been, then they will understand that politics to get into the studio should not be that difficult, but sometimes so." In an October 2017 interview, Lindberg confirmed that Pennywise has finished recording their twelfth studio album, which is expected to be released in early 2018. On March 6, 2018, the band announced that the album, titled Never Gonna Die Maps Pennywise (band)

Their songs and lyrics tend to focus on themes such as positive mental attitude, as well as the political and social events that the band found wrong or unpleasant.
