Specifications
Hardware
Like its predecessor, the Xperia Z3 design consists of a metal frame with glass backing; the metal frame has been rounded, and the device itself is a bit slimmer than Z2. This device carries a slightly higher IP rating for water and dust-proof than Z2. The device has a 5.15 inch (13.1 cm) screen (marketed as 5.2 inches) with a density of 424 ppi, featuring Sony's "Triluminos" technology. The device comes with a 801 quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801-on-chip system with 3 GB of RAM. Z3 includes a non-removable 3100 mAh battery. The rear camera of the Xperia Z3 is 20.7 megapixel with Sony Exmor RS image sensor, along with improved "SteadyShot" and "Intelligent Active" modes.
Software
Xperia Z3 is shipped with Android 4.4.4 "KitKat" with Sony interface and software. New additions to Z3 software include Lifelog, Sony Select, and support for Remote Play on the PlayStation 4 video game console. Android 5.0 "Lollipop" was first launched for Z3 in March 2015 in the selected region. Android 6.0 "Marshmallow" was first released in April 2016.
The developer preview builds Android 7.0 "Nougat" released for Z3, but Sony states that they can not release the final version due to "unexpected platform limitations"; Qualcomm states that it will not provide support for Nougat on any device that uses the Snapdragon 801 or 800 chipset. Adreno 330 GPU does not support the Vulkan or OpenGL ES 3.1 graphics API, which must be present to meet Google's certification requirements for 7.0.

Reception
Critical reception
The Xperia Z3 generally receives positive reviews, with critics praising durability, battery life, and improved display. Although many critics argue that the Z3 is just a minor upgrade of Z2 with not much difference. Pocket Lint criticizes the device for high design and "excess software sometimes" but praises the battery life. The Verge praised the design of the device as it is attractive yet rugged, made of a better material than the Galaxy S5, and also waterproof. The Guardian mentions the best smartphone device ever made by Sony, with improvements in shades and designs over its predecessors. However, it criticizes the Z3 for the lack of wireless charging for something waterproof with "fiddly doors" covering the disappointing charging port, but having a magnetic charging port for the access dock.
