Yolanda Yvette Adams (born August 27, 1961) is an American gospel singer, record producer, actress and former nationally syndicated radio show host. In September 2009, he has sold 4.5 million albums since 1991 in the United States, and nearly 8 million albums worldwide by SoundScan. Adams is known as "Queen of Contemporary Gospel Music" and "First Lady of Modern Gospel". Variety dubbed Adams as "Queen of Urban Governance".
On December 11, 2009, Billboard named him Artist of the Gospel. 1 of the last decades In the same chart, his album Mount High... The Lowlands is recognized as the best Gospel album.

The eldest of six children, Adams was born in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Sterling High School in Houston in 1979. After graduating from Texas Southern University, he began his career as a school teacher and part-time model in Houston. Finally he gave up teaching to appear as the lead singer.

Beginning
Adams first caught the attention of Thomas Whitfield and Sound of Gospel Records as the lead singer with Southeast Houston's Inspirational Chorus affiliated with the Lord's Church in Christ, under the direction of Carl Preacher, Brenda Waters, and Shirley Joiner. The choir released the single "For My Liberty" in 1982 with Adams as the lead vocalist. In 1986, Adams appeared on Edwin Hawkins Music and Arts. The Seminar Choir released Give Us Peace , with a show titled "My Trust Lies in You". Then, he signed a recording contract with Sound of Gospel which produced his first album Just In I Am in 1987. In 1990, he was found by producer/keyboardist Ben Tankard, and signed a contract with his independent label Tribute. Record and released Through The Storm . Tankard's goal with Tribute Records during this time is to develop audiences for smoother gospel/jazz sounds. She featured Yolanda's jazzy vocals on the album and the single "You Bring Out the Best in Me" single-release video of her 1994 release Play Me in Your Key . This collaboration received a positive response from the gospel, jazz and "quiet storm" formats.
One year later, Adams followed with Save the World , which included his first signature song "The Battle Is The Lord's". The next release is 1995's More Than a Melody, which features more of Tankard's production work with contributions from O'Landa Draper and BeBe Winans. The single "Gotta Have Love," from an album featuring Tony Terry in vocal background, gained major fame and was his first single and music video. Yolanda... Live in Washington , released the following year, featured a material version of her first three albums. The recording of this recording was released as a collection of two videos on VHS initially, and then as a set on DVD and CD. During this time the parent company Tribute Records Diadem Music Group merged with Benson Music Group, which was eventually purchased by Zomba/Verity Records based in New York.
Songs from the Heart is the latest release for Verity Records, including "Only Believe", which is a popular song on contemporary radio. The album also includes "Still I Rise," a dedication to Rosa Parks, who was inspired by Maya Angelou's poem by the same name.
Mainline breakthrough
Adams' first significant concern outside the arena of contemporary urban gospel came with the release of High Mountain... Low Valley in 1999 on Elektra Records. Some of the major artists and producers helped in the production of this album include Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (Janet Jackson, Boyz II Men), James "Big Jim" Wright (Mariah Carey, Nicole C. Mullen), Warryn Campbell (Mary Mary, Brandy)) , and Keith Thomas (BeBe & CeCe Winans). The album went 2x Platinum in 2000 and won the Adams Grammy Award. Some of the singles from the album include " Ya ", "Fragile Heart", and "Open My Heart". "Fragile Heart" is dedicated to the memory of the old street manager Adams, who died in 1998.
In 2000, Adams released a Christmas album, and in 2001 he released a live album ( The Experience ). The Experience captured the second Adams Grammy Award for Best Gospel Soul Gospel Album. Believe , which included the hit "Never Give Up" was released in 2001 and achieved gold status according to the RIAA. He then went on to perform this song in "The Salute to Gospel Music" at the White House during the administration of President George W. Bush. In 2001, Adams also released a compilation CD titled The Divas of Gospel ; it includes the legendary Grammy Award winner Albertina Walker, popularly referred to as "Queen of Gospel Music" until her death in 2010.
Adams recorded a song for the 2003 movie Honey , titled "I Believe", which was screened during the final scene in the dance final.
Adams is also the judge for the second annual Independent Music Award to support the career of independent artists. She is also credited as the Queen of Contemporary Gospel Music.
Days By Day
After nearly four years without releasing the album, Adams returned in 2005 with Day By Day . Despite charting higher than High Mountain... The Lower Valley on the Billboard 100 and Billboard R & amp; B Album, it does not receive RIAA certification. The album featured singles "Be Blessed," "Someone Keeps an eye on you," "This Too Shall Pass", and "Victory" (prominently featured in The Gospel movie).
After ending his long relationship with Atlantic Records, Atlantic released the biggest hit collection titled The Best of Me in May 2007.
Adams signed a contract with Columbia Records in 2007. Columbia released What a Wonderful Time , his second holiday collection, in October 2007. "Hold On" was released as the lead single.
The morning radio show and book release
After the release of "What a Wonderful Time", Adams began his radio career with "The Yolanda Adams Morning Show." The show proved successful, taking over 26 radio markets in just two years. The radio show featured Marcus D. Wiley as the Secular Bishop. Currently, the event is heard at 39 stations, including 1190 WLIB in New York City.
On December 25, 2009, Adams appeared on BET The Mo'Nique Show , where he sang "Already Alright," from his 1999 High Mountain Valley Valley. Mo'Nique states that the song is one of his favorites.
In 2010, Adams released his book "Points of Power", based on one segment of its Points of Power radio show.
Yolanda Adams appeared in BET Honors 2011 to sing her signature song "The Battle Is the Lord's" in honor of Cicely Tyson. Later, Adams appeared at the 53rd Grammy Awards, taking part in the award for Aretha Franklin, along with Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, and Martina McBride Adams featuring "Spirit in the Dark" - Franklin's classic 1970. On several occasions, Franklin stated that he "really likes" Yolanda's appearance. On May 29, 2011, Yolanda sang at the prestigious National Memorial Day Show in Washington, DC, in honor of US soldiers.
Be
Adams's eleventh studio album, Becoming , was released on May 3, 2011 produced by Steve Bracey. The new single, "Be Still", by Drathoven, debuted on Tuesday, April 19th at the Yolanda Adams Morning event. Be released by Walmart as an exclusive deal. At The BET Awards 2012, Adams won the Best Gospel Artist award for the 4th time in his career after winning the most since the first BET Awards in 2001.
Twelfth studio album: 2013 -
On April 2013 episode of BET's "Raise Every Sound," Adams announced that he was working on his twelfth studio album. The album title and release date have not been announced yet, but he announced songwriting and generated credits from such people as Super Gospel producer Donald Lawrence, Israeli Houghton & amp; Kirk Franklin. He also mentioned the song and studio sessions with Grammy, Billboard & amp; ASCAP won the award of global hit songwriter Diane Warren (Whitney Houston, Patti Labelle, Tina Turner, Elton John).
Book releases
Adams released its first book of Points of Power in 2010. This is a Christian book that refers to a pure and soul-filled Christian life.

Personal life
From 1987-1990 Adams married Troy Mason. Adams says the couple's torture is the reason for their divorce. In 1997, Adams married former NFL player Tim Crawford. The couple divorced in August 2004 after seven years. Adams and Crawford have one daughter, Taylor Adams Crawford, born in 2001.
Adams served as a spokesperson for the Rebate Operation Rebound FILA Corporation, a program aimed at issues of schoolchildren in the city center.
