In the First Vision is a romance novel by Nicholas Sparks, written in 2005. Set in North Carolina, USA, At First Sight is the sequel. to Sparks's previous book, True Believer , written in the same year. On First Sight originally was the result of a 45-page epilogue on True Believer . Sparks editor thinks this is too long for the epilogue, and damages the effect of True Believer . That's when Sparks got the idea to write On First Sight as his predecessor.

Plot

At First Sight begins after Jeremy's proposal. In New York City, Lexie and Jeremy are preparing to move Jeremy to their future home, Boone Creek. Lexie keeps Jeremy secret from her family and friends and Boone Creek residents until after the wedding, because she does not want people to get the wrong impression of why she and Lexie decided to get married with just a few weeks of getting to know each other. The only people who knew about the pregnancy were Jeremy's best friend, Alvin, and Lexie's grandmother, Doris.

When Jeremy and Lexie return to Boone Creek, Jeremy finds himself unable to find the inspiration to write a new column for his magazine. This adds stress to buying a new home for his new family and having a kid on the road. Dorris tries to help Jeremy with this problem by giving him his book. Doris is a city psychic and has special skills to predict the sex of a newborn baby, and keeps a record of it in her book. Doris suggested that Jeremy try to write about the journal for the new column.

Problems In Heaven

Rodney is a character featured in True Believer as Lexie's longtime friend who has been after him for years until Jeremy arrives. At the end of the previous novel he got interested in him and Lexis another old friend, Rachel. With this book they are an established couple, who have experienced problems in their relationship. Rachel feels as if Rodney still has not forgotten Lexie, and will be with her if she does not marry Jeremy. One day Jeremy finds Lexie sitting alone with Rodney talking and holding hands. She immediately feels this suspicious but tries to tell herself that it's nothing and she just makes it into something not, even if Rodney has been eyeing Lexie for years. Jeremy then confronts Lexie about what he did that day, in which case he failed to mention anything about seeing Rodney that day. Jeremy receives an anonymous email just saying "how do you know the baby is yours?" This paired up with his inability to get pregnant leaving Jeremy with his racing mind, suspecting it might belong to someone else, especially Rodney, but once again reminded himself that Lexie was not able to do such a thing and no one ever belonged to him. and Rodney, and he decides not to tell Lexie.

Rachel Leaves

Sometime later, Rachel ran away for a few days without telling anyone, so Rodney, Dorris, and Lexie were worried. Lexie canceled his dinner plan with Jeremy and said he would go to Dorris's house to talk and cheer him up, but when Jeremy checks on him, he finds his car on Rodney instead. Feeling mad that Lexie once again lied go to her house and waited outside to get her back. When he came back he confronted him about Rodney and Lexie explained that he went to his grandmother as he said and then decided to cheer Rodney. They fought fiercely and Jeremy returned to the local motel where he was staying.

Second Email

When he returned, Jeremy received a second anonymous email, this time saying, "Did not he tell you the truth? Read Doris's journal You'll find the answer there." Moments later, Lexie appears crying and both end up working. Jeremy still has not told Lexie about the emails, do not know what to say or take from them. Jeremy looked for what the email meant, and after several times through and analyzing the book, he found it; predicted from the previous four years of miscarriage with Lexies' initials and father's name. Jeremy is furious that Lexie never told him about it and feels he has lied to him for the third time. Both end up with a heated argument after approaching their new home, and this time when Jeremy leaves, he will return to New York City for his bachelor party. There he found the anonymous sender of an email was his best friend, Alvin who did not want married couples after a short period of time. Jeremy learned that when Rachel ran away, he went to New York City and visited Alvin, whom he had met in a previous novel, and spilled the secrets of a previous Lexies miscarriage and documented it in a journal, and so Alvin knew it. Jeremy is very angry at Alvin, he does not want to hear from him again, and gets the next flight back to Boone creek.

When Jeremy returns, he and Lexie talk at length and both admit that they're both wrong, and Jeremy fills them in emails, Alvin, and Rachel. It's all explained since then that the baby is actually, though it is possible, definitely Jeremy 'and that there is nothing between Lexie and Rodney. Rachel dodged Lexie and Doris for a short time until finally coming to Lexies' house, apologizing and explaining how she accidentally told Alvin about the pregnancy and they made up. They had a beautiful wedding in a short time where Lexis's dead parents were married.

The Baby

When Jeremy and Lexie go to the appointment of their ultrasound, they find out that an amniotic band threatens their baby with the possibility of disability if it sticks, or even his life. Jeremy and Lexie spent the last ten weeks of pregnancy in fear and sadness over the news. Lexie tells Jeremy that they can move to New York for Jeremy, in the hope that Jeremy finds inspiration to write again. Jeremy briefly thought about this offer and quickly turned down his offer. Moments later, Jeremy finds inspiration to write the next column and his writing habits have ended.

Lexie wakes Jeremy early in the morning to let him know that she's having a baby. With this news Jeremy freaks out like a dad who expects and falls apart for the whole experience. Lexie managed to send their daughter, Claire, named after the mother of the late Lexie; But Lexie died soon after giving birth, leaving his grandmothers Doris and Jeremy in grief and Jeremy, a widowed widow.

Epilog

In the epilogue, Claire is now four and Jeremy has adapted to life without Lexie. Claire has been having nightmares for several weeks several times each night, like Lexie when she was young after her parents died. Jeremy takes him to a very special place for Jeremy and Lexie, the grave where Lexie and his parents are buried, where the phenomenon occurs around midnight on a foggy night. After this Claire no longer had nightmares after seeing this phenomenon exactly as her mother had.

True Believer (prequel)

On First Sight starts the story where True Believer is left out, but skips a bit between two books. True Believer introduces the romance between New York City residents, Jeremy Marsh and residents of Boone Creek, Lexi Darnell. In the first novel, Jeremy was a writer who went to a small town in North Carolina, Boone Creek, to pursue a story. There he met Lexi, the city librarian. Jeremy is fascinated by Lexi and both end up falling in love. Jeremy had a divorce several years earlier mainly because of his inability to conceive the children, but the book ended with Lexi holding his belly to Jeremy if he "believed in miracles" and that his psychic grandmother, Dorris, predicted that it was a girl; she is pregnant with her child. This book shows that since True Believer Jeremy has applied for Lexi after a very short date period.

Nicholas Sparks and his works
