J.H. Filbert, Inc. is a company based in Baltimore, Maryland, USA that produces margarine and butter products, including Margarita Ny. Filbert and I Can not Believe It's Not Butter!
The company was founded by John H. Filbert, who died in 1917. His wife, Martha V. Filbert (and the name for "Mrs. Filbert's Margarine") later took over as president, and served in that role for more than thirty years, until his death in 1954.
In 1972, Central Soya acquired a private company, which by then had achieved annual sales of $ 63 million and was the largest private producer in Baltimore. In 1979, Filbert created I Can not Believe It's Not Butter! and began marketing it in 1981.
Unilever acquired Filbert in 1986 for $ 23 million to increase US East Coast production capacity. It continues to market some products made by Filbert.
