Character

The four main team members are:

  • Reissue - Mavis Trent, a S.H.I.E.L.D. a data analyst who uses his position to keep Truthful Persons Safe from the Super Human Enrollment Act. Because it is tied with foreign symbiote, Trent is able to transform into a form of silver-skinned energy. Unlike Venom's aliens, this one survives when the host is happy.
  • Headtrip - Talyn Roark, an expert relationship with increased empathic ability. Former boyfriend Max Trent and first recruit at True Believers.
  • Red Zone - Theo Bomba, conspiracy theorist Fringe, with increased mental ability caused by lightning strikes that unintentionally merged his skull with a sophisticated tin hat made of alien alloy.
  • Battalus - Ozzie Tanaka, former S.H.I.E.L.D. R & D scientist D. Using Advanced Battle Armor developed for urban battles. Ozzie also has a form of Borderline Personality Disorder.

Plot

This series involves a new team of characters who are exploring the background of events in the Marvel Universe. The team is led by Payback, Mavis Trent, a S.H.I.E.L.D. data analyst.

Despite the mini-series, True Believers are unusual because every problem contains a central plot that is finalized. Edition 1 features a team ending the dungeon club. The club is run by rich and powerful people who pay for women to be kidnapped, drugged and forced to fight each other.

The second issue relates to a conspiracy to frame Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four, for driving under the influence of alcohol. This issue also sees Payback with Reynolds psychiatrist, Dr. Cornelius Worth, discussing his feelings with his father.

The third issue reveals the origin of Payback, and starts searching for a Payback father's killer.

The fourth gives the origin of Battalus and the Red Zone, and more details about the murder of Payback's father.

Fifth reveals the truth behind the murder of Payback's father.

Reception

The first problem had been to forecast the sale of 17,151 copies, placing it at number 132 in the sales chart. Edition # 2 goes down to an estimate of 12,838 (149).

True Believers have received mixed reviews. For example, Broken Frontier is less impressed, feeling that it does not meet expectations that "it's a bit disappointing considering what to expect" and that "the tone formed by the writing crosses into the art too: shows some good potential, but fails to fully realize it." However, they also feel that all hope is not lost and if "Bates and Gulacy really think about it and are willing to push the limits of what they can do with this concept, it might just turn into something very special. "The Comic's Resources Resource agrees and suggests that the story" is a genuine and timely concept, but weak execution does not carry it well. The Bates craft seems a bit rusty, and feels more than a little worn at a time "and that the problem with art partly derived from script problems as "every artist will struggle to match 15 panels on a single page and still maintain good flow." The bulletin is largely positive and concludes that "the whole issue presents an interesting introduction if somewhat vague for character "with the only downside is the staining" Beredo does the job y but this technique seems so common that it fails to add anything ". They stopped just embarrassed giving full marks for a second problem, especially as the reviewers felt "a certain detachment of the main characters," but little doubt about the art in the first issue had been addressed and they stated that they were "ready to raise my praise for Rain Beredo's color as well". The online comic book review for Scifipulse.net, Nicholas Yanes, is equally positive, writing that "this is the title everyone should have on their list."
