The Postmodern Jukebox , also widely known by the acronym PMJ , is a revolving music group founded by arranger and pianist Scott Bradlee in 2011. The PMJ is known for re-making popular modern music be different. vintage genres, especially early 20th century forms like swings and jazz. The Postmodern Jukebox has garnered over 1 billion YouTube views and 3.4 million subscribers.
Every week, the Postmodern Jukebox launches a new video on YouTube. Although originally mostly casually filmed in Bradlee's living room, the sets become more complicated over time. The band has covered songs by artists ranging from Lady Gaga and The Strokes to Katy Perry and White Stripes. From their inception as a small group of friends making music in the basement in Queens, New York, the Postmodern Jukebox has featured 70 different players and toured five continents.

Origins
The postmodern jukebox originated when Bradlee began filming video with his close friends from college in his little basement apartment in Astoria, Queens. The original group included bassist Chris Anderson, saxophonist Ben Golder-Novick, harpist Brandee Younger, and vocalist Emma Walker.
Bradlee fought for many post-college years as a jazz musician in the New York City area before hitting him big with his first viral video in 2009 - "medley of the 80s song performed ragtime style." A tweet from renowned author Neil Gaiman is the onset of the online viral popularity eventually.
In 2011, the precursor of the Postmodern Jukebox concept emerged in the form of the Bradlee A Motown Tribute to Nickelback project. This is a video that introduces the world to many players featuring PMJ including bassist Adam Kubota, drummer Allan Mednard, host Drue Davis, sax/EWI/producer Steve Ujfalussy (also known as '90s R & amp; B icon' Steve Sweat " from i> Saturday Morning Slow Jams ) and Tambourine Guy, Kubart Team.
2012-present
With over 1 million views in its first week, and 4 million in its first year, the cover of Robyn Adele Anderson from Macklemore & amp; Ryan Lewis', "Thrift Shop" (2012) is the first viral music video of the Postmodern Jukebox. The track breakout is included on Introducing the Postmodern Jukebox (2013) and finally find its way to position # 8 on the Billboard magazine's Jazz Album chart . This success was followed by Miley Cyrus' cover, "We Can not Stop" in 2013, landing the band for the show at Good Morning America (ABC) in September.

Davis performs and solos on the upright bass while singing the song and recalls the occasion, "I know the song, maybe it can be done quickly." Maybe that's why it's so funny I remember thinking it was very funny when I was going to crack, maybe five times. "The 1940s arrangement and piano accompaniment was by Bradlee with Dave Tedeschi on drums. The single was a success, attracting the attention of Time magazine, Billboard magazine, Huffington Post and PBS NewsHour. As of February 2017, the music video has over 16,570,000 YouTube shows, and the song is the 11th song on the PMJ's Historical Misappropriation album (2014).
BuzzFeed featured a doo-wop cover of "Timber," with Robyn Adele Anderson and The Tee Tones fronting, in February 2014. The cover of Radiohead's seminal group '90s hit "Creep," conducted by Haley Reinhart, called "awesome listening" by the Los Angeles Times in April 2015. In November 2017, the video had over 39 million views, and was the most watched video.
In 2015, Broadway actress Shoshana Bean became active with the group as a guest artist when Bradlee moved to Los Angeles. Broadway World is raving about Bean's appearance of Sia's, "Chandelier," at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California, and Billboard magazine doing feature stories on Motown. makeover from Justin Bieber "Sorry." Bean joins the European Jukebox 2016 spring tour at its midpoint. Sara Niemietz first performed with the cast in August 2015, which included Speaker Chief, "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)" (1983), the PMJ translation of "Hey Ya!" In early February 2016, the Postmodern Jukebox closed the classic song "Heroes" by David Bowie in honor of World Cancer Day - featuring vocals by Nicole Atkins. The song was sold on iTunes to make money for the Cancer Research Institute. In 2016, Heineken announced their global partnership with Formula One racing management and in September released the first "If You Drive, Never Ever Drink" first "Sir Do you Drink" featuring Sir Jackie Stewart ("Flying Scot") with the PMJ "Heroes" cover as the soundtrack. Around the same time, PMJ launched a program called "Reboxed," which consists of new versions of the songs they have been discussing. The first Reboxed song was Niemietz (and the Sole Sisters) who sang "Bad Romance" which had previously been sung by Ariana Savalas (feat. Sarah Reich tap dancing). Adweek went on to show Bradlee as one of the "20 Content Creators Who Set the Bar for Creativity in 2016."

On February 24, 2016, the Postmodern Jukebox opened at the Dubai Jazz Festival, alongside Sting, Toto, Chris Botti, and David Gray.
The 2016 tour includes three continents: 1) a 75-date European tour at Vicar Street in Dublin, Ireland, wrapping on June 3, 2016 in Athens, Greece. 2) The Australia/New Zealand 16-city tour, which begins on August 29, 2016 at the Isaac Theater Royal in Christchurch, wrapped on September 20, 2016 at the Perth Concert Hall. and 3) a 45-stop North American fall tour, starting on September 29, 2016 at Vets in Providence, Rhode Island, and wrapping on November 27, 2016 in Mesa, Arizona.
The 2017 tour includes concurrent dates in Europe and the United States, with two separate "cast" musicians.
PMJ made its first visit to South America in August 2017, with four dates in Brazil and one in Argentina.

Several former American Idol finalists have found success as part of the Postmodern Jukebox ensemble, including Vonzell Solomon (season 4), Blake Lewis (season 6), Melinda Doolittle (season 6), Haley Reinhart (Season 10) , Casey Abrams (Season 10), Thia Megia (season 10), and DeAndre Brackensick (season 11). Four Seasons 14 finalists have also made major vocals for the group: Joey Cook, Rayvon Owen, Clark Beckham, and JAX.
