The Bride of Christ or the bride , the Lamb's wife is the term used in reference to a group of related verses in the Bible, in the Gospels, Revelation, Letters and Signs related in the Old Testament. Sometimes, the Bride is implied by calling Jesus the Bridegroom. For over 1500 years, the Church has been identified as a bride engaged to Christ. However, there are several examples of interpretations of use that vary from church to church. Some believe that it always refers to the church.

Christ as the groom

In the Gospel of John, John the Baptist speaks of Jesus Christ as the bridegroom and mentions the bride.

He who has the bridegroom is the bridegroom: but the groom's friend, who stands and hears it, rejoices greatly with the voice of the bridegroom: thus my joy is filled. [John 3: 29]

That is the only place in the Gospel that the bride mentioned, but because the bridegroom must have the bride, all others mention the bridegroom implies the bride.

In the three Synoptic Gospels, when Jesus was asked why his disciples did not fast, but the followers of John and Pharisees did, Jesus answered:

And Jesus said to them, Can the bridegroom's friends fast, during the bridegroom with them? but the days are coming, when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast. [Mark 2:19]

In Matthew 9:15 , Mark 2:19 and Luke 5:34 , the Apostles referred to as friends, guests, or dependent children on translation, from the commonly accepted Bridegroom of Jesus Christ.

The Bridegroom is also mentioned in Parables of the Ten Virgins. [Mat 25: 1-13]

"Then the kingdom of heaven will be like the ten girls who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom."

Appearance

The Book of Revelation repeatedly mentions the appearance of the Bride.

And I John saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

... And come to me one of the seven angels who had seven full vials of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come, I will invite you the bride, the wife of the Lamb. And he took me away in spirit to the great and high mountain, and told me that the great city, the holy Jerusalem, came down from heaven from God, [class sup] = "reference nourlexpansion"> [Revelation 21: 2,9-10 ]

In the above passages, John, author of the Book of Revelation, speaks of seeing the bride expressing and referring to him as the New Jerusalem, first mentioned in Revelation 3:12 .

And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come on." And let him who hears say, "Come on." And let him who is thirsty come. And whoever wants to, let him take the water of life freely. [Revelation 22:17]

Note - The Greek word for bride is ????? (nymfi) as in Revelation 21: 2. This world, ????? (nymfi), more specific than that used in chapter 19. Revelation 19: 7 who has ???? (gune) means "wife" or "woman". The context of Revelation 19: 7 is marriage so this should tell the reader why many Bible translations are consistent with the Greek in translating ???? as a "bride". She is just a "woman" to be married - a bride. Bride is the selected word in translation like NIV, NLT, ESV, NASB, ISV etc., [Revelation 21: 2]

Compare church with bride

In Ephesians 5: 22-33 , Paul compares the union of husband and wife to Christ and the church. The central theme of all Ephesians is the reconciliation of alienated people in the unity of the church. Ephesians 5 begins by asking Christians to imitate God and Christ, who surrender themselves to them with love. Ephesians 5: 1-21 contains a rather powerful warning of ignorance and lets one's guard against evil. Instead, the author encourages the reader to continue to be grateful for the song in their hearts because of what God has done for everyone in Christ. The introduction to this subject text takes back the theme of the surrender of love that begins with Christ's example in 5: 2 : "Be obedient to one another in honor of Christ." 5: 21 This implies that "The Bride" is a body of believers made up of universal Christians Ekkl? Sia (Church) (lit. "people called out").

The ekkl? Sia was never explicitly called the "bride of Christ" in the New Testament. It was approached in Ephesians 5: 22-33 . The main analogy is that of the body. Just as husband and wife are to be "one flesh", [Eph. 5:31] This analogy for the author describes the relationship of Christ and ekkl? Sia . [Eph. 5:32] Husbands are urged to love their wives "just as Christ loves and extends himself for it. [Eph. 5: 25] When Christ nurtures and cherishes the flesh, he maintains and respects his own flesh, just as a husband, when he loves his wife loves his own flesh. [Eph 5:28] The member of ekkl? Sia is a" member of his own body "because it is written in Genesis 2: 4 " and both will be one flesh. "In Pauline quotes the passage of Genesis as the so-called" divine note of obedience "(p.

In his letter to the Corinthian church in 2 Corinthians 11 Paul writes to warn the community of false teachers who will teach another Christ, and to acknowledge his fear that they will trust someone who teaches false Christ, other than Christ Jesus from Nazareth whom he taught; Paul refers to the Church at Corinth as the Christ. "Because I am jealous of you with godly jealousy: for I have granted you to one husband, that I may present you as a holy virgin to Christ, but I fear, in any way, as a snake crushes Eve through its subtlety, so your mind must be destroyed from the simplicity that is in Christ, for if he who comes preaches another Jesus, whom we have not yet preached, or if you receive another spirit, which you have not received, or another Gospel, which you have not received, bear it ". [2 Cor. 11: 2-4]

In writing to the Church in Rome, Paul writes, "Therefore, my brethren, you too are dead to the law by the body of Christ: that you should marry another, even unto him that was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit unto God "(emphasis add ). [Roma 7] Here, Paul seems to suggest that the Church will marry Jesus Christ of Nazareth, who was raised from the dead.

Other interpretations

While the most commonly accepted interpretation of the bride of Christ is the Church, there are other unusual interpretations.

144,000 anointed

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that 144,000 are the only ones who will enter the Kingdom of Heaven and thus believe that the Bride is another term among many people to refer to the 144,000 people who will be allowed in.

Old Testament

The earliest Christian tradition identified the Old Testament text as a symbol of divine love of God and man. The love poems of the Song of Songs and the Last Hosea prophet have many references to the sexual relations of God and His people. The prophet Hosea recorded his bride in chapter 2, verse 16 and so on. The theme of the bride's love is central in the dramatic wedding Hosea.Template: Hosea 1: 2
