Jacob (sometimes spelled Yacub or Yaqub ) is a figure in the Nation of Islam (NOI) belief. According to their beliefs, Jacob is a black scientist who lived "6,600 years ago" and started the creation of a white race. He is said to have done this through a selective breeding form called "transplant", while living on the island of Patmos. The scientific consensus rejects the historicity of this number.
The Nation of Islam theology states that Jacob is a biblical Jacob. Sunni and Shia Muslims who are not affiliated with the Nation of Islam reject this belief. The name Ya`qub (Jacob) is an Arabic variant of the name of the Bible Patriarch known as Jacob in the English version of the Bible, and as Ya`aqob in Biblical Hebrew. The African-American writer and playwright drama Amiri Baraka A Black Mass (1965) takes inspiration from the story of Jacob. According to critic Melani McAlister, "Jacob's character, now called Jacoub, is introduced as one of three 'Black Witches' which together symbolize the black origins of all religions." McAlister argues that,
Baraka changed the myth of the Nation into reinterpretation of the Faust story and simultaneous meditation on the role and function of art. Like Faust, Jacoub's individualism and egotism is his failure, but his failure also signifies the destruction of a community. Baraka's version of the story also refers to Frankenstein's story; he attributed the six hundred years of Elijah Muhammad's "history" to a single terrifying single moment of monster creation.

In the free style for Drake's song "We Made It", Jay Electronica says "All these demons, I have to attack some" and Jay Z says "I'm ready to catch Jacob back to the cave".
